My Community service and mission trip experiences
In this section, I will share with you all of my experiences with community service, and the many mission trips I have been on. Here you will get a see a part of my life that means a lot to me and the behind the scenes of what we do to help people.
Working VBS
I started working at VBS when I was in 7th grade, and I lived just hanging out with the kids and doing all kinds of fun activities. I was so appreciative that God gave me the opportunity to give these kids the most action packed and amazing week if their summer was truly a blessing. This past summer, I worked with two amazing moms in a group with rising 3rd grade boys. I learned a lot while volunteering about mastering my patience considering these kids loved to test it. Yet, being these kid's counselor had a really big impact on me. It taught me so much about keeping an open and positive mind, and was a great lesson on the importance of patience.
My Mission Trip to Guatemala
I've gone on countless Mission Trips in my lifetime. Accumulating a little over 350 community service hours just in 2 and a half years. Most of these mission trips being in the southeast of the United States. Except for one Mission Trip where I flew all the way to the country of Guatemala. This was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life. I witnessed with my eyes the reality of third world countries and what their people have to go through. Witnessing the daily life of Guatemala's civilians spoke to me and reminded me how blessed I truly am. While I was there, I sang songs to the children in school, gifted them soccer balls, and we even had a little concert for them. Another thing we provided was months worth of food for the locals, we would hundreds of yards to different homes to deliver rice, beef, beans, and different vegetables. Seeing the pure joys on the children and even the adults lit a spark in me. Seeing how grateful these people were exemplified what I strive to be more like, focusing less on what I want and more on what I already have. Before we left the country we helped a community rebuild one of the walls to the hospital, and some of us even assisted the doctors in saving patients lives. Rebuilding this community brick by brick was such a beautiful experience It made me think deeply about how I can continue to help communities even with tiny acts of goodness.
